# November 2026 IRS & Maryland Tax Deadlines for Individuals and Small Businesses

### November 2026 IRS & Maryland Tax Deadlines: What Individuals, Small Businesses, and Employers Need to Know

November is a useful month to close out third-quarter employer filings, keep payroll deposits on schedule, and prepare for Maryland’s next withholding and sales-tax dates. Here are the November 2026 deadlines most likely to matter to individuals, small businesses, and employers, including a time-sensitive Maryland FAMLI action.

---

- - #### Why November’s calendar matters

November does not bring a regular quarterly federal estimated-tax installment for most individuals, but it does carry several employer and Maryland business deadlines. A quick review now can help prevent a missed payroll deposit, late state return, or last-minute decision about Maryland’s new paid-leave program.
    - ![](https://alltaxaccounting.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-1.png?width=448&height=57&name=image-png-1.png)
    - ![](https://alltaxaccounting.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png.png?width=1068&height=814&name=image-png.png)
    - *Semiweekly deposit dates apply only to employers on the federal semiweekly schedule. Details for every date are below.*
- - ### 🏦Key Deadlines in November 2026 Explained
    - For most small businesses, November centers on five themes: third-quarter payroll reporting, federal payroll deposits, Maryland withholding and sales tax, extended Maryland business returns, and the FAMLI private-plan decision. Form 941, the FUTA deposit, and Maryland unemployment insurance reporting open the month on November 2. Employers on the monthly federal deposit schedule generally need to deposit October payroll taxes by November 16, the same day Maryland monthly withholding and extended Maryland Forms 500, 510, and 511 are due. Sales and use tax follow on November 20, and semiweekly depositors have deposit dates spread across the entire month.
- #### 📌 November 2: Form 941, FUTA deposit, and Maryland unemployment insurance

November 2 is the biggest deadline day of the month for employers. Form 941 for the third quarter is normally due October 31, but because that falls on a Saturday this year, it moves to Monday, November 2. The return reports wages, tips, federal income tax withheld, and Social Security and Medicare taxes for July through September. Employers should also confirm whether a FUTA deposit is required: if accumulated FUTA liability through September 30 is more than $500, the deposit is generally due the same day. Maryland employers also need to file the third-quarter unemployment insurance contribution report (Form DLLR/DUI 15-16) and pay any contributions due. That is a Maryland Department of Labor filing, separate from the Comptroller withholding return.

- 1. #### 📌 November 4, 6, 12, 16, 18, 20, 25, and 30: Semiweekly federal payroll deposits

These dates generally affect employers on the IRS semiweekly deposit schedule. If your payroll schedule places you in this category, November is not about one single payroll deadline. It is a repeating pattern of deposit dates based on when wages were paid: Wednesday through Friday paydays are generally deposited by the following Wednesday, and Saturday through Tuesday paydays by the following Friday. Two dates shift for holidays this month. The November 12 deposit moves back a day for Veterans Day, and the November 30 deposit moves past Thanksgiving. These deposits typically cover federal income tax withheld from employees plus the employer and employee shares of Social Security and Medicare taxes. The main practical risk is assuming that running payroll automatically means the deposit was made. EFTPS payments generally need to be scheduled by 8 p.m. Eastern Time at least one calendar day before the due date, so confirm deposits are actually scheduled through EFTPS or through your payroll provider.
    2. #### 📌 November 10: Form 941 for on-time depositors and employee tip reporting

Employers that deposited all third-quarter payroll taxes in full and on time generally get until November 10 to file Form 941. That extra filing time does not extend any payment deadline, so confirm the relief applies before relying on it. November 10 is also the deadline for employees who received $20 or more in tips during October to report those tips to their employer. This matters for restaurants, salons, hospitality businesses, and any employer with tipped workers. Accurate tip reporting affects payroll withholding, wage reporting, and year-end tax forms, and a manual or inconsistent collection process is a common place for payroll records to fall out of sync.
    3. #### 📌 November 15: Maryland FAMLI Declaration of Intent

This is the time-sensitive item of the month. A Maryland employer that intends to apply for an approved private FAMLI plan in 2027, and wants the contribution exemption during the 2027 seeding period, must submit a Declaration of Intent through its FAMLI account by November 15. This applies only to employers pursuing the private-plan route. All Maryland employers still need to register with FAMLI, and the State Plan remains the default. Because November 15 falls on a Sunday and the [FAMLI employer guidance](https://paidleave.maryland.gov/employers/understand-your-plan/) does not say the date rolls forward, employers considering a private plan should complete the filing well before the final day.
    4. #### 📌 November 16: Monthly payroll deposits, Maryland withholding, and extended Maryland business returns

November 16 is the second major compliance date of the month. Employers on the monthly federal deposit schedule generally must deposit employment taxes for October wages by this date; the normal due date is the 15th, which falls on a Sunday this year. Maryland employers that file Form MW506 monthly must also file and pay the tax withheld from October wages through Maryland Tax Connect, and a zero report may still be required if the account is active. On the business-return side, corporations that extended their 2025 Maryland return must file the extended Form 500, and S corporations on extension must file the extended Form 510, or Form 511 if they made the pass-through entity election. An extension gives more time to file, not to pay, so interest and penalties may already be running on any unpaid balance. Because payroll taxes are trust-fund taxes, this is a deadline that benefits from advance reconciliation rather than same-day filing.
- #### 📌 November 20: Maryland sales and use tax for October

Not every business that collects Maryland sales and use tax has a return due on November 20. The Comptroller assigns each account a filing frequency (monthly, quarterly, or annual), generally based on how much tax the business collects, and the filing periods tied to that schedule can vary by account. Monthly filers must file Form SUT 202 and pay for October activity by November 20. Businesses on a quarterly or annual schedule should check the periods assigned to their account rather than assuming a November return does or does not apply. If you are not sure which schedule your account is on, check your Maryland Tax Connect account. Monthly returns are filed through Maryland Tax Connect, and Maryland requires a return for each assigned period even when a business had no taxable sales. Sales tax deadlines are especially important because the money collected is held on behalf of the state, not treated as business operating cash.
- #### 📌 November 30: Final semiweekly deposit and specialized federal excise filings

Along with the last semiweekly deposit of the month, businesses with heavy highway vehicles first used on public highways during October may need to file Form 2290 and pay the heavy highway vehicle use tax by November 30. Certain wagering businesses also have Form 730 obligations. These are specialized requirements, so check the IRS calendar if they apply to your business.
    1. ---
    2. ### 👉 How to decide which November deadlines apply to you

→ If you are an employer, November deserves a close look at Form 941, FUTA liability, Maryland unemployment insurance reporting, payroll deposits, tip reporting where it applies, and Maryland withholding.
    3. → If your business extended its 2025 Maryland corporate or pass-through return, November 16 is your filing deadline.
    4. → If your business collects Maryland sales tax, confirm your assigned filing frequency first: November 20 is the date for monthly filers, and quarterly or annual filers should check the periods assigned to their account in Maryland Tax Connect.
    5. → And if you are seriously considering a private FAMLI plan instead of the State Plan, the Declaration of Intent should be filed well before November 15. Most individuals do not have a federal estimated-tax installment due in November, but if you make estimated payments, now is a good time to review the [2026 Form 1040-ES schedule](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es.pdf) and plan for the fourth installment, generally due January 15, 2027.

One of the best ways to stay ahead is to confirm the filing frequency tied to each tax account, reconcile payroll before deadlines arrive, and keep clear proof of every filing and payment with your month-end records.

If you are unsure which November 2026 deadlines apply to your business or household, AllTax Accounting can help you sort through the requirements and put a cleaner compliance process in place. The goal is not just to meet one deadline. It is to create a repeatable system for managing federal and Maryland tax obligations with less stress month after month.
